A’Ibom Govt Warns Against Use of Governor’s Name to Solicit Funds

The Akwa Ibom State Government has issued a strong warning against the unauthorized use of the name of Governor Umo Eno and official state insignias to solicit funds or promote private events and activities.

In a statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, the Government expressed concern over the rising trend in which individuals, groups, and organizations use the Governor’s name to seek financial contributions from the public or attach the prestige of his office to personal engagements without due approval.

“The name and office of the Governor must not be used to solicit funds for any purpose whatsoever,” the statement read. “Such actions are inappropriate, misleading, and capable of creating false impressions.”

The Government also made it categorically clear that Governor Umo Eno will not serve as Chairman, Chief Launcher, or Special Guest at any public event, unless such participation is officially approved and communicated.

“Consequently, the name of the Governor must not be used for such purposes under any guise,” the release added.

The statement urged individuals, organizations, and interest groups seeking the Governor’s endorsement, presence, or participation in any activity to obtain prior clearance from the relevant authorities. It warned that failure to do so would be taken seriously.

While reiterating its openness to genuine engagements, the Government emphasized the need for strict adherence to due process and protocol to protect the integrity of the Office of the Governor and the Government of Akwa Ibom State.
